5 Reasons Why You’re not Losing Belly Fat

You’ve done everything you think you should be doing—eating right, exercising often, staying healthy and active—and yet, you can’t seem to get rid of that little pouch of fat on your belly. This doesn’t automatically mean you’re not doing enough, sometimes it might just be genetics or signs of getting older.
Here’s a few reasons why you’re not losing belly fat:
1. You’re not young and spry anymore – our bodies change how it loses or gains weight depending on our age. As you grow older, your metabolic rate declines. Add to that, your caloric needs may have also changed.
2. You’re focusing on the wrong exercise – cardio work outs get your blood pumping, making it a great exercise for your heart but it won’t do much help with your waist line. To burn fat where you want it to burn, try combining it with weights.
3. Your cheat day snacks are bad for your belly – you may be eating healthy, but when you sneak in refined grains and sugars, it increases inflammation. When your body is inflamed from these proceed food, it makes it more difficult to lose the belly fat.
4. You’re under too much stress – ah stress, the bane of everyone’s existence. Stress can have adverse effects not only to the mental faculties but also your physical body. Stress causes hormones like cortisol to overproduce and could make losing weight more difficult.
5. You lack sleep – Did you know that people who sleep more are generally leaner and healthier? That’s because the body needs sleep! Women who get little sleep could gain 30 lbs more than women who always get a full night’s rest.
It’s important to stay healthy and do what you can to get rid of that excess belly fat. Visceral fat is actually a health hazard as it surrounds your organs and may be a predictor of insulin resistance, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and even some cancers.
